The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)

Your Path to a Warmer Home

Welcome to Edge EPC's dedicated page for the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS). Here, we aim to provide homeowners and tenants with a clear understanding of how this scheme can help you make your home more energy-efficient and reduce your energy bills.

  • The Great British Insulation Scheme, announced in September 2022 as part of the Growth Plan, is a government initiative to improve the energy efficiency of homes across the UK. With a funding pool of £1 billion available from April 2023 to March 2026, GBIS focuses on providing single, low-cost insulation measures to a wide range of households.

GBIS is designed to deliver high volumes of insulation measures quickly and efficiently, helping you save on energy bills and keep your home warm. By targeting both broader and low-income groups, the scheme ensures that more households can benefit from improved energy efficiency.

  • Homeowners and tenants in Council Tax bands A-D in England, A-E in Scotland, and A-C in Wales.

Homes with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below.

  • GBIS focuses on a "fabric-first approach," meaning the scheme provides insulation measures that improve the building's fabric. The eligible measures include:

    - Cavity wall insulation

    - Solid wall insulation (both external and internal)

    - Loft insulation

    - Pitched roof insulation

    - Flat roof insulation

    - Under floor insulation

    - Solid floor insulation

    - Park home insulation

    - Room-in-roof insulation

Each household can receive one single insulation measure. For low-income households, heating controls can also be provided as a secondary measure.

Customer Contributions

While the scheme primarily covers low-cost measures, households can opt to contribute towards higher-cost insulation measures if desired. For many households, this won't be necessary, as the scheme aims to provide essential insulation without additional costs.
